Ugh...

"And the words of the stranger came back to me -
I said 'It's hard to be a 21st century girl.'
He said 'I think it's hard in any century!'"

I have so many wonderful friends. People that believe in me. People that will do ridiculous things with me, then be there to pick me up and dust me off when the ridiculous things don't go like I planned.

My friends are a unique batch of people. Most of them are pretty bizarre and some are just downright uncouth. But they are people that love and encourage me. I'm really lucky to have the friends that I have.

So why do I keep contacting the one person who constantly brings me down?

I should just accept the fact that this person has changed and that I will never be a priority. It's just hard for me to let go of everything I had (and didn't have) with this particular friend.

Facebook doesn't help. I miss the old days where you could drift away from somebody and not have to be alerted every time they are playing Farmville or eating spaghetti. Ugh.

The 21st century is rough sometimes.

  1. It can definitely be hard to let go of an old friend, especially because you remember and miss how that person used to be. I never joined Facebook because it sounds like a lot of work to me, and I'm not sure who I'd "friend" or "block". It sounds a little too complicated for me.. But on the other hand, I like the fact that I could access coupons through Facebook.

  2. I know how you feel. You really have to break away from the people who make you feel crappy.

I have to see who of my FB "friends" are getting engaged, married or procreating. It sucks.

  4. Yeah, FB can definitely be deadly in that respect. I suffer through that with a few people.

*hugs* Sorry you have to know one of those people.

  5. everytime a different game news item comes up on my facebook feed, I click the little x on the top right corner and block it, so the only things that come through on my facebook news feed are people's actual news.

  6. Ugh, I know exactly what you're talking about, Lauren. I've taken to just blocking people from my News Feed altogether so I'm not bothered with their updates, AND I'm pretty sure you can block specific game posts from showing up on your wall? I don't know. I hate FB. SIGH.

  7. Facebook is a hellmouth; spewing forth pictures and updates that are bound to give you all sorts of bad feelings.

Recently one of my friends got a new girlfriend. One of the first things he said about her was that she was really devoutly religious. I ignored that, maybe I should have paid more attention, and told him to bring her home next time he came and introduce her to everyone. He did. Except I wasn't invited. I'm sure they had their reasons, but it's pretty tough when you see someone you were once really close to - a whole group of people you were once really close to - leaving you behind.

But hey, enough of my whining. You go back to that person because there was a time in which they didn't drag you down. It's natural, it takes time for us to kick habits and move on. Partly, I think, because we never really want to move on. It's hard to file a part of your life away and accept that it will never be what it once was. It's only fair that you initially fight that outcome, and give in to the impulses you're used to.

Ah. THE RETURN OF THE MEGA COMMENT. Sorry. off now...
