Guest Post - The Fonz

First off, I've got some bizarro cartoons floating around the internet that I'd like to share with you guys. I know I've mentioned The Transatlantic Support Group on here before, but I'm taking this opportunity to shamelessly plug it again because Tom, Allison, and I had way too much fun pretending to be superheros last week. I got a little bit carried away and created a three-page comic that relentlessly makes fun of hipsters. You can read that comic here. Don't forget to check out the rest of the blog while you're there!

In other news, The Fonz now knows about this blog. I reluctantly showed him a few entries from it tonight and he was fascinated. Honestly, I was nervous that he would somehow be offended by the fact that I've written about him, but he thought it was great. The whole scene was mildly reminiscent of Dumbledore telling Harry Potter he's a wizard.

He even offered to write an impromptu guest post for me. So without furthur ado, here is The Fonz:

Hi Lauren's readers- This is The Fonz, guest writing Lauren's blog entry for today because she is tired of all of you sucking out her essence and needs a break from giving so much. As for me, I am more Fonzie like everyday. My many disorders are melting away as perfect hair, perfectly white t-shirts, free juke box plays, and multitudes of STD-free sexual escapades in "my office" with the pink ladies take over where anxiety once ruled. As for Lauren she had a great day. She had a heartfelt walk around our neighborhood with a local eastern Guru who gave her advice that comes from the nether regions of Nepal and from Oprah. She now feels more enlightened and free and even broke into laughter and tears simultaneously as she pointed with joy at one of God's greatest creations; the squirrel. She marveled at her new insight and her delight in finally being able to see a squirrel's testicles for the first time. "Look at them, basking in the sunlight, it's sooo beutifuuul.." she exclaimed. The world is full of wonders and Lauren is headed down a new path of positivity, relationalness, dreamtucking, and happijoyness.

That concludes today's message from The Fonz. I apologize for the strange squirrel humor. Believe it or not, that story is all based on actual events (though I believe he misquoted me a bit towards the end).

By the way, you guys are definitely not "sucking out my essence," as The Fonz so poetically stated. Just for the record. :D

Anyway, I've got lots more to write about but I should really go to bed. Hopefully I'll be able to throw another post up here tomorrow. But for now, I'm gonna get sleep. Goodnight, amigos.

I Now Return You To Your Regularly Scheduled Programming...

Whew. Busy day in the blogosphere. I just updated my Musical Advice Column for the first time since last summer. I'm planning to update it regularly again. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you may want to head over there and experience the madness. Basically, people write in with their various problems and I respond to them by singing and playing an instrument. Yeah, it really is as campy as it sounds. You just might love it.

I also just put up my Friday post for the Transatlantic Support Group. I think I've mentioned the TASG a couple of times already in this blog, but it gets a little bit cooler each week. Allison and Tom are fantastic people to collaborate with and I assure you that you will be entertained if you click on the TASG link.

Anyway, enough shameless self-promotion and onto other news.

I snagged this photo from Facebook today:

It's from the kitchen show last week and pretty much sums up the magic of trash rock. It was taken by The Chef, who was probably on his second or third bottle of wine at the time this picture was taken.

Sadly, the grand era of trash rock may be coming to an end. We're not breaking up, but we're slowly headed in opposite directions. Meaning that I want to do music for a living and he wants to be a full time computer programmer. I respect his decision, but it's still depressing.

So I'm working up the nerve to book a solo show somewhere. I've also been writing music like crazy. We'll see what happens.

Anyway, that's about all I have to report. I think I'm going to meet up with my old high school Spanish partner for a little heavy metal knitting party. Then later, I'm going to an electronica show with a few of my neighbors. I'm pretty stoked. I'm totally in the mood to dance.

I should figure out what I'm going to wear. It might be an evening that requires a costume change. I can't imagine that the outfit I wear to the dance club will be appropriate for knitting with the old Spanish partner...

Over and out, comrades! Happy Friday!

Getting Sick. Getting Older. Getting...A Job???

Bleck. I've caught the crud that's going around. Last night I even skipped out on going 80's dancing with friends to stay home and blow my nose repeatedly. You know I really don't feel well when I pass on 80's night.

I miss the days when being sick was kind of glamorous. Not that being sick is ever fun. But when I was a little kid, coming down with the flu meant that I got to move Mom's TV into my room. It meant staying home from school to watch hours of "The Price Is Right" while Mom made sure there was always a full glass of 7-up in front of me.

Getting sick is just annoying when you're an adult though. Oh how times change.

It's still weird to think of myself as an adult. I just realized that I'm going to turn 23 in about two weeks. TWENTY THREE. How on earth did I get to be 23 already? What am I doing with my life???

(Note: Those are rhetorical questions. Do not answer them.)

I think all I really want for my birthday is the job that I just spent all day trying to get stuff in place for. I'm being vague on purpose because I don't want to hype up something that might not even happen. If I got this job, my life would change radically for a bit, but I'm totally up for it. I think I have a good chance of getting hired. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but the company seems interested in me. We'll see what happens. Till then, I'm sitting here crossing my fingers.

I really should go to bed. I want to be better by tomorrow night so that I can go to a little dinner party in the community kitchen. I think a whole bunch of people are going to be listening to music, cooking spaghetti, and drinking wine. I still have only met a handful of people in the building, so it would probably be a good idea to show up with some organic vegetables and mingle with people I haven't met yet.

But before I go to bed, I should mention something exciting that's happening in the blogosphere. I've joined forces with two great blogger friends, Tom and Allison. The three of us discovered that we were all going through the same 20something angst, so we created a little something called The Transatlantic Support Group. Check it out! It's still pretty new, but it's been turning out pretty cool so far. You might enjoy it (and possibly be able to relate to it). :)

Anyway, that's all I've got. That bottle of Nyquill by the bathroom sink is calling my name. More interesting/coherent post next time, I promise. :)

Over and out.
